Over 10,000 original technical drawings of the suspension system
For those involved in the restoration of collector cars, an archive of original technical drawings is not only an extraordinary cultural heritage that pays homage to the past, but a living tool that connects our present way of working to its origins in the past, guiding our craftsmanship of custom-made reproduction parts for classic and vintage cars.
Where originals are reborn
Our Santena headquarters houses a collection of more than 10,000 reproductions of technical drawings of leaf springs, coil springs and other original components.
This collection, a sort of Wikipedia of suspensions that we started in the 1980s, is the result of painstaking research and careful organisation of documents we’ve collected from manufacturers' museums, archives, offices, workshops and garages. Today we have at our disposal – catalogued by manufacturer, model and year of production – the technical instructions that are indispensable when it comes to producing a part that conforms perfectly with the characteristics of the original.
Paper, the time machine
For enthusiasts like us, this collection sparks a special feeling: every time we consult a drawing, it’s like coming into direct contact with the designer. Although we don’t even know his name, the man who created that drawing feels like someone we know. It feels like we’re speaking the same language, through a sheet of paper that shows us how he analysed, drew and dimensioned an optimal technical solution, perhaps going through numerous steps. It’s one of the most captivating aspects of our profession: a conversation between colleagues collaborating across time.
